17-year-old girl died after her 20-year-old boyfriend strangled her to death during an argument before throwing her body in the backyard; boyfriend arrested

Florida – In a harrowing incident in Florida, a 20-year-old man, identified as D. Domond, is accused of killing his 17-year-old girlfriend, identified as J. Barthold, following a domestic dispute, leading to a second-degree murder charge. Domond now faces a prolonged legal battle after his act of violence against his girlfriend.

The incident took place last Monday. Authorities were called to a residence where they discovered the lifeless body of a young woman in the backyard. The victim, identified as Barthold, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics due to apparent strangulation. The suspect, Domond, initially told law enforcement that during an altercation at his home, he was attacked by Barthold and an unidentified man. However, after extensive questioning and facing the reality of his actions, Domond admitted there were no other individuals involved and that he had strangled Barthold during an argument. According to police, Domond then moved her body to the backyard in an attempt to conceal his heinous act.

Domond was arrested the following day and is currently being held without bond at the correctional center. During his court appearance, a judge denied bail and appointed a public defender to handle his case. The community and Barthold’s family are left reeling from the shock and sorrow of the young girl’s untimely death. A vigil was held where friends and relatives gathered to honor Barthold’s memory, many wearing T-shirts bearing her image as a somber tribute. The victim’s brother expressed his profound grief and regret, lamenting his inability to protect her. “She didn’t deserve this at all,” he told reporters. “She was a beautiful young girl. This is just tragic. He shouldn’t have gone that far with domestic violence. It didn’t have to go like that. I’m so sorry for all of this.”

The vigil also served as a platform for raising awareness about domestic violence, with attendees mourning not just the loss of a vibrant young life but also the circumstances that led to such a tragedy. Barthold’s aunt voiced her pain and frustration, saying, “I’m not happy that she’s on my shirt, to be honest. I don’t want her to be on my shirt. I want her to be physically here with me.” As the investigation continues, more details about the nature of Domond and Barthold’s relationship come to light, painting a picture of a troubled and violent partnership. Authorities revealed that Domond had previously been involved in aggressive confrontations with Barthold, including an incident reported by Barthold’s mother where Domond allegedly assaulted her.

The case against Domond is built on a combination of eyewitness accounts, forensic evidence, and his own contradictory statements. The sheriff’s office continues to piece together the timeline of events that led to Barthold’s death, hoping to provide justice for her and her grieving family. Barthold, remembered in an online obituary as a “loving and sweet baby” and a “daddy’s girl,” was cherished by those who knew her. Her brother has initiated a GoFundMe to assist with funeral expenses, reflecting on her life cut tragically short: “A beautiful soul was taken away due to tragic domestic violence.” As the community mourns, the stark reminder of the dangers of domestic strife and the importance of seeking help remains at the forefront of discussions spurred by this devastating event.
