2-year-old girl died after her father, who had beaten her for days, put her in a 5’ by 5’ box and prevented his wife from calling 911 as he tried to plan his next steps; father arrested

Nevada – In a harrowing incident in Nevada that has shocked the community, a 35-year-old father, identified as Nicholas L., faces serious charges after his young daughter was found dead, showcasing a dark tale of abuse and neglect. Nicholas is accused of causing the death of his 2-year-old daughter, identified as Izabella L., through sustained physical abuse and neglectful actions.

On the morning of April 3, deputies from the sheriff’s office were called to the family home. Upon their arrival, they found Izabella unconscious, and despite immediate efforts to save her, paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. The authorities noted significant signs of physical abuse on the toddler’s body, sparking a more profound investigation into the circumstances leading to her tragic death. A probable cause arrest affidavit, which local media outlets managed to obtain, revealed chilling details provided by Izabella’s mother, who has not been charged with any crime as of this writing. She described witnessing Nicholas engaging in violent acts against their daughter, including kicking her and dragging her by her sweatshirt in the days before her death. Furthermore, Izabella had been vomiting blood and mucus for about ten days prior to her death, symptoms that were alarmingly overlooked.

On the night of her death, after showing a low body temperature, Izabella was given a bath by her mother and seemed fine momentarily. However, Nicholas then placed to sleep in a box with a lock within the children’s room. This makeshift box, as described in the affidavit, was about 5 feet by 5 feet, and while Nicholas admitted to locking Izabella in it on at least one occasion, it was indicated that the mother often placed her there. Unfortunately, in the early hours of the night, another child alerted the parents that Izabella was vomiting again. Nicholas found her unresponsive two hours later, but instead of seeking immediate medical help, he prevented his wife from calling 911 and plotted ways to cover up the situation. Initially, he considered fleeing with the family and burying Izabella’s body in the backyard. Ultimately, the decision was made to stage the scene to look as though they had discovered her unresponsive at 7 a.m., concocting stories to explain her injuries as accidents.

Nicholas was arrested and is held on a $10 million bond in the county jail. He faces charges of child abuse resulting in death, with the disturbing details of his actions leading to a potential increase in charges as the investigation continues. His manipulation extended to blaming some of Izabella’s injuries on her siblings, claiming they had accidentally hit her with toys. In a candid admission to detectives, Izabella’s mother expressed remorse for her inaction: “I should go to jail for not helping Izabella, Nick should go to jail for killing her.”

As this case unfolds, it serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities of children and the devastating impact of domestic abuse. The community and authorities hope that justice for Izabella will bring some measure of closure to this appalling tragedy, but the loss of such a young life leaves a permanent scar on all involved. The final determination of Izabella’s cause of death is pending, as are further legal proceedings that may also implicate other members of the household.
