33-year-old mother of 1 died after her husband she previously reported to police for a domestic incident beat her to death one day after being released on bond; husband arrested

Texas – In a deeply unsettling incident in Texas that took a tragic turn, a 33-year-old mother and high school teacher, identified as C. Spillers, was found dead in her Texas home just one day after her husband, identified as B. Ashley, previously jailed for a domestic disturbance at the same residence, was released on bond. Now, that same man is facing a murder charge for her death.

Ashley, who had only recently been released from jail following a domestic incident, is now at the center of a homicide investigation. Authorities issued a murder warrant after his wife, Spillers, was discovered lifeless in their home. The victim had suffered blunt force trauma, according to police. Ashley was arrested two days later, over 100 miles away from their home, after he was found shirtless and behaving erratically. Law enforcement confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody. Deputies were informed that the subject claimed to have hidden a firearm nearby. The firearm—a .357 caliber Astra revolver—was located shortly after he initially refused to disclose its whereabouts.

The murder charge follows a prior domestic disturbance involving the couple on Thursday, October 17. That night, police were called to their residence. Ashley was arrested and spent the night in custody. However, by Friday, he had posted bond and walked free. Less than 24 hours later, Spillers was dead.  On the evening of Saturday, October 19, police conducted a welfare check at the couple’s home. What they discovered was devastating. Spillers, a well-respected high school biology and chemistry teacher, had been beaten to death. The loss sent shockwaves through the school community and left an 11-year-old boy without his mother.

Meanwhile, Ashley had fled the area. The next day, on Sunday, October 20, deputies began receiving reports of a suspicious man wandering shirtless on private properties approximately two and a half hours from their home. Witnesses said the man had knocked on several doors asking for a shirt and appeared to be experiencing a mental health episode. He was reported avoiding nearby highways, claiming there were “too many cops.” Initial searches by deputies failed to locate him. But by the next morning, a suspicious black vehicle connected to the murder warrant was found abandoned in a field.

Soon after, officers tracked Ashley to a local store. Surveillance footage confirmed his presence there. At approximately 10:12 a.m. on Monday, October 21, deputies detained him. Ashley was taken to a nearby emergency room for medical assessment before being booked into the county jail. He now awaits extradition back, where he will face formal prosecution for the killing of his wife. The couple’s son is now staying with relatives.

This investigation remains active, and authorities continue to gather evidence. They are urging anyone with further information to contact the sheriff’s office or submit tips through P3tips.com. What began as a routine domestic call escalated into a fatal case of intimate partner violence—a devastating reminder of the dangers victims face when protective systems fail to hold offenders long enough to prevent tragedy.
