Wisconsin – In a horrific case in Wisconsin, a 40-year-old woman, identified as S. Krebs, with a long criminal history, has been sentenced to life in prison for the fatal stabbing of her 35-year-old fiancé, identified as J. Carnot, during a drug-fueled argument. Krebs was convicted in September 2025 of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Carnot. On November 20, Judge V. Biskupic sentenced her to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 36 years.
The deadly altercation unfolded on June 18, 2024, when Krebs stabbed Carnot in the chest inside their shared apartment in Appleton. Two friends, J.R.P. and his girlfriend, C.L.C., who had arrived to hang out that evening, walked into a gruesome scene. Carnot was bleeding heavily on the kitchen floor, and Krebs, allegedly calm yet frantic, asked them to cover for her. “Just tell the cops [Carnot] stabbed himself,” she reportedly told them, adding, “I can’t go back to prison.”
The witnesses were stunned. One later testified that she “110% believes Krebs stabbed [Carnot],” and her boyfriend pointed to Krebs’ lengthy criminal background. Court records revealed that from 2011 to 2022, Krebs had been convicted multiple times for offenses including battery, drug possession—including meth, heroin, and cocaine—and negligent weapon use. In one prior incident in 2016, she had “accidentally” shot an ex-boyfriend in the leg.
Following the stabbing, Krebs appeared conflicted—alternating between panic and denial. She kissed Carnot, told him she loved him, apologized, and then fled the apartment. According to the complaint, she drove off in a car with no license plates and was later found by police at another acquaintance’s home. There, she maintained that Carnot had killed himself, claiming, “I just watched my fiancé kill himself and now I’m being arrested.”
During the trial, Krebs stuck to her story, even taking the stand in her own defense. She admitted to being high on methamphetamine at the time but denied stabbing Carnot. Prosecutors, however, argued that she ended a long-simmering argument by plunging a kitchen knife into his chest, then attempted to fabricate a story about suicide. After five days of testimony and five hours of deliberation, the jury returned a guilty verdict.
During sentencing, Krebs tearfully addressed the court, insisting she wasn’t responsible for Carnot’s death. “What I never will understand is the fact that anyone would believe, even for a second, that I would hurt him… I know I’m not responsible for his death,” she said. She acknowledged being high and making poor decisions, but maintained her innocence regarding the actual killing.
Judge Biskupic, however, was unconvinced. “Today, you don’t accept any responsibility,” he said. The case has stirred conversations around addiction, domestic violence, and accountability. Prosecutors emphasized the brutality of the act and the long trail of prior violent incidents in Krebs’ past. Ultimately, the court found her actions beyond excuse, sentencing her to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole only after she turns 76 years old. Krebs is currently serving her sentence in a Wisconsin correctional facility.
