Cherry, who pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder and one count of ra-e in connection with the death of a 5-year-old girl, identified as Zoey, is set to spend the rest of his life in prison. The tragedy unfolded in a makeshift homeless encampment, starkly highlighting the vulnerabilities of life on the margins.
The incident occurred on October 2, 2023, when the police department was alerted to a critical situation at a gas station. Emergency responders found Zoey with life-threatening injuries and swiftly transported her to a hospital. Despite the efforts to save her, Zoey was pronounced dead shortly after arrival due to the severity of her injuries. Authorities quickly deemed Zoey’s death suspicious and launched a homicide investigation. Cherry was arrested and charged with murder following the initial police response.
