Public alert issued as fraudulent arrest documents appear to target Jefferson County citizens

Jefferson County Sheriff announces arrest of jailer following allegations of fraternization with a female detainee

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a disturbing scam that involves a fraudulent “Order of Arrest” being sent to individuals in an attempt to steal money. At least one local citizen has received this fake document, which falsely appears to be an official warrant issued by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and other state entities. Officials are urging the public to remain cautious and to report any similar suspicious documents or communications.

The fake warrant is designed to look authentic, complete with fabricated charges, case numbers, and what appear to be legal references to Arkansas statutes. It also includes falsified signatures, official-looking seals, and even QR codes to make the scam appear more convincing. The fraudulent order accuses the recipient of failing to appear for a federal grand jury summons and demands a payment of $20,000 in bail, supposedly payable directly to the State of Arkansas.

Key Details About the Scam

Law enforcement officials are stressing several important facts to help the public recognize and avoid falling victim to this scam:

  • The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office does not send arrest warrants through email or by postal delivery.

  • No legitimate law enforcement agency will ever request bail or financial payments through personal messages, email, or mail.

  • Real arrest warrants are only issued through proper judicial procedures, and individuals are typically notified in person by law enforcement or through formal court processes.

Sheriff Lafayette Woods, Jr. issued a public statement to emphasize the seriousness of the matter, saying,
“We take the safety and peace of mind of our citizens very seriously. This type of scam is not only illegal—it is dangerous. We encourage the public to be cautious, verify all suspicious communications, and report anything that seems questionable to law enforcement immediately.”

How to Respond if You Receive a Fake Warrant

If you or someone you know receives a document like this, officials strongly advise not to respond, click on any links, or send money. Instead, you should contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at (870) 541-5351 to confirm the authenticity of any legal notification.

Additionally, individuals who have received these documents or suspect they may have been targeted are encouraged to report the incident to the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office Consumer Protection Division at (800) 482-8982 or through their website at www.arkansasag.gov.

Scams like this rely on fear and urgency to trick people into making quick decisions. Public awareness and immediate reporting are crucial to stopping these schemes. Stay cautious, verify suspicious messages, and protect yourself and your loved ones from financial harm.
