Atkins, Arkansas – Last week, the lives of two Arkansas men unexpectedly changed when they each won a top prize of $50,000 from the same scratch-off game. The winners, S. Hughes of Atkins and Travis S. of Roland, both claimed their prizes from the $50,000 Frenzy instant game at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center.
For Hughes, the win came during a stressful day. After experiencing vehicle trouble and needing to purchase a new part to fix a work truck, he decided to spend some of his remaining cash on a couple of lottery tickets at Tobacco Town Atkins, located at 903 Church Street. One of those tickets brought in a modest $30 win.
Feeling lucky, Hughes used that $30 to buy a $50,000 Frenzy ticket. He scratched it off right there at the counter—and instantly knew something was different.
“I about fell over,” Hughes said. “I’m still having a hard time believing it.”
Initially overwhelmed, Hughes handed the ticket to the store cashier. Realizing what had just happened, he then asked the cashier to bring in his wife, who was waiting outside. Alarmed by the sight of Hughes “doubled over,” she rushed into the store fearing the worst—only to be handed a winning ticket worth $50,000.
“All I did was hand her the ticket,” Hughes said with a smile.
With the unexpected prize, Hughes plans to fix his truck and invest in growing his business.
Second Winner Strikes It Big While Running Errands
On the same week, another Arkansas man, Travis S. of Roland, also won $50,000 on a $50,000 Frenzy scratch-off. He purchased his winning ticket at Circle K, located at 10200 N. Rodney Parham Road in Little Rock.
Travis explained that he only plays the lottery about twice a month. On this occasion, he happened to have cash on hand while running errands and was drawn to the Frenzy ticket. Having won smaller amounts—$40 and $100—on the game before, he figured he’d give it another try.
He scratched the ticket inside his car and was stunned when he saw the result.
“That can’t be right,” he remembered thinking. “Do I need to take this somewhere and get it checked?”
After reviewing the instructions on the back of the ticket, Travis confirmed he had indeed hit the top prize. He quickly shared the good news with his father, who believed him instantly. Others, however, were a bit more skeptical.
“Other people didn’t believe me quite as quickly,” he joked.
Travis says he plans to save his winnings and take his time deciding how best to use the money.
More Prizes Still Available
The $50,000 Frenzy is a $20 scratch-off ticket with several top prizes available. According to the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, 40 top prizes of $50,000 still remain unclaimed.
