North Little Rock CARES Youth Coalition set to host annual Family Fun Day for local families

North Little Rock, Arkansas – The North Little Rock CARES Youth Coalition is preparing to welcome families to its highly anticipated annual “Family Fun Day” on Saturday, August 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place at the Sherman Park Community Center, located at 624 Beech Street, North Little Rock. Open to the public and free of charge, the day promises an atmosphere of celebration, unity, and community support.

Free Backpacks, Supplies, and Activities for Youth

Organizers confirmed that hundreds of children will receive free backpacks, school supplies, and even haircuts to ensure they are ready for the upcoming school year. In addition to these essentials, families can look forward to bounce houses, face painting, snow cones, and an array of food trucks offering tasty options.

Sherman Park Community Center Director and longtime CARES Youth Coalition member, Renee Henson, has been a driving force behind the event. Known for her dedication, she emphasized the importance of ensuring no child goes without as they prepare for school.

“I love serving my community; I’ve been doing it for over 40 years. I never like to see a kid go without, so I make sure our kids have everything they need- from the earrings or haircut down to the shoes. I’ll do whatever it takes to help our families get ready for the start of a new school year,” Henson said.

Last year’s Family Fun Day drew more than 500 children and parents, supported by over 20 community partners who contributed supplies and services. Organizers are expecting a strong turnout again this year as families look forward to the back-to-school season.

Community Spirit and Continued Support

CARES co-facilitator Darrell Montgomery highlighted the Coalition’s broader mission, which extends beyond the annual Family Fun Day.

“The North Little Rock CARES Youth Coalition is about bringing people, organizations, and resources together to make a positive difference in the lives of our youth. Our efforts include community family fun events, youth job fairs, back to school supplies, and so much more because WE CARE ABOUT OUR YOUTH,” Montgomery stated.

For those who wish to support the event, donations for backpacks and supplies are being accepted. Contributions are tax-deductible, and donors can give through the official fundraising page or by contacting Raúl Fernández directly at 501-313-7203 or [email protected].

Volunteer and Donation Opportunities

Individuals and organizations interested in volunteering or providing services and supplies for the event are encouraged to reach out. Contact Renee Henson at 501-340-5373 or [email protected], or Raúl Fernández for more details on how to get involved.

This initiative underscores the Coalition’s ongoing commitment to uplifting youth and families in North Little Rock, providing not only essential school supplies but also a safe and joyous celebration of community togetherness.
