3 months pregnant 18-year-old girl died after her 22-year-old boyfriend who reported her missing stabbed her to death following an argument; boyfriend charged

Massachusetts – In a deeply disturbing case in Massachusetts that began as a missing persons report and ended in a shallow grave behind a family home, a 22-year-old man, identified as G. Groom, now faces murder charges in the death of his pregnant 18-year-old girlfriend, identified as K. Monteiro. The man, who initially reported her missing, has since confessed to killing her after an argument and burying her body in the woods behind his grandparents’ property.

Groom has been charged with murder, assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault and battery, and intimidation of a witness following the death of Monteiro. The young woman, just 3 months pregnant and a recent high school graduate, was last seen on August 6. Her body was recovered over a week later—buried five feet deep and just twenty yards from the shed where prosecutors say she was stabbed.

Before she vanished, Monteiro sent a message to her sister that would come to haunt her family. In her final text, she wrote: “He threw me on the ground, and pulled my hair and strangled me.” According to reports, in the text message she also mentioned that if anything were to happen to her—if she didn’t make it out alive—her boyfriend would be the one responsible. The text arrived on August 6. Two days later, Groom called police and claimed that Monteiro had shown up looking for a place to stay, they had argued, and she left his home. When asked if he had heard from her since, he said no. He added that she was usually active on social media, but hadn’t posted since their fight. That version of events quickly began to unravel.

Investigators grew suspicious, and by August 14, they were searching the 25-acre property owned by Groom’s family. Though the first search turned up nothing, a follow-up interview with Groom shifted the case in a horrific direction. Confronted with the possibility of a full excavation, Groom hesitated. Then he drew a map. A simple sketch pointing to a shed. He told police he had stabbed Monteiro twice in the neck, once in the chest, and that the kitchen knife broke during the final blow. He admitted she died there, and that he spent hours digging a grave in the woods. Cadaver dogs and emergency crews returned to the scene. Beneath a pile of brush, they found blood near the shed. Just twenty yards away, after clearing cut trees, investigators uncovered freshly moved soil. Digging down five feet, they recovered Monteiro’s body.

Monteiro was just 18. She had dreams, friends, and had only recently graduated from high school. According to family and friends, she was ecstatic about her pregnancy—she wanted to be a mother and had so much to look forward to. “She wanted to be a mother. She was so happy,” said her friend K. Schofield. Monteiro “will always be remembered and always be loved.” Her sister described her as outgoing, loving, and full of life. “She really was just such a happy person,” she said.

Groom was arraigned on the murder charge at Taunton District Court and is currently being held without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 10. What began as a frantic search has now become a criminal case—one that underscores the devastating consequences of unchecked violence within a relationship.
