Man, who killed the unborn child of his 7-week pregnant girlfriend after inserting four pills he bought from a girl on campus without her knowledge, was charged

Illinois – In an unsettling incident that has sent shockwaves through Illinois, a 31-year-old man, identified as E. Evans, is facing two counts of intentional homicide of an unborn child after authorities say he secretly inserted abortion pills into his pregnant girlfriend, causing her to miscarry in her apartment bathroom. The act, prosecutors claim, was not only premeditated but also carried out without the woman’s knowledge or consent.

Evans appeared in the county court on Monday for a pretrial detention hearing. Following the hearing, the judge ordered Evans to be held without bail at the county jail pending trial. According to court documents, Evans deliberately inserted four pills of an abortion-inducing drug into his girlfriend without informing her. The woman, who was approximately seven weeks pregnant at the time, began experiencing severe bleeding and cramping and was found crying on the bathroom floor, surrounded by blood, when police responded to her residence on Friday around 5 p.m.

Evans initially denied any wrongdoing when questioned by investigators. However, after further inquiry, he confessed to administering the drug and claimed he believed he was helping her make the decision. Prosecutors say this statement illustrates a complete disregard for her autonomy and well-being. He told officers he had purchased the pills from a “girl on campus” for around $50. Though the specific location of the purchase remains unclear, Evans admitted that he inserted the pills vagi-ally while the woman was unaware—using four pills in total, even though medical guidelines call for just one pill taken orally under clinical supervision.

Evans allegedly justified his actions by saying he wanted to terminate the pregnancy and thought she was aware of what he was doing. The victim, however, told authorities she had not agreed to any termination and had no knowledge of the pills. Police were initially dispatched for what was reported as a medical emergency involving a pregnant person. The woman was found in clear distress, and as details emerged, what began as a health crisis quickly escalated into a criminal investigation.

Authorities have since confirmed that Evans is the father of three children who live with him and has no prior criminal convictions. That clean record, however, does little to shield him from the gravity of the charges now before him. In Illinois, intentional homicide of an unborn child carries the same weight as first-degree murder. If convicted, Evans faces a sentence of 20 to 60 years in prison, and under certain conditions, potentially life behind bars.

Evans is scheduled to be arraigned on September 12. As the case progresses, prosecutors are expected to press the point that the act was not only unlawful but also executed in a way that robbed the victim of her agency and placed her life at risk. Though abortion is legal in Illinois, the law requires informed consent and medical oversight. What occurred in that apartment was neither—it was, as described in court, a violation of trust, consent, and life itself. The victim is expected to recover physically, but the emotional trauma of what unfolded at the hands of someone she trusted may linger far longer.
