14-year-old boy died while in the “safety” of his own home after being hit by a stray bullet fired by two groups of teens having an argument outside

Missouri – In a shocking incident in Missouri that has shattered a family and rattled an entire neighborhood, a 14-year-old boy, identified as D. Morgan, was killed by a stray bullet while sitting in his bedroom, playing video games—his life stolen by gunfire that wasn’t meant for him but reached him all the same. Morgan, just weeks into his high school journey, died inside the one place he should have been safe—his home.

So far, no arrests have been made, but authorities believe the bullet that killed Morgan came from a chaotic argument between two groups of teenagers that escalated into gunfire. Witnesses told police that several teens were seen outside wearing masks, yelling, and eventually opening fire in the middle of the street. According to the police department, the deadly shot was fired shortly after 6 p.m. on a Wednesday evening. At least two bullets flew through Morgan’s bedroom window—one of them striking him fatally.

Investigators are asking for help from the public and continue working to identify the individuals involved in the shooting. Those with information are urged to contact law enforcement or submit anonymous tips through CrimeStoppers. With no suspects yet in custody, the case remains open—and a grieving family waits for justice. Police were dispatched to the scene following a 911 call that reported a child had been shot. When officers arrived, they found Morgan unresponsive, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Inside the home at the time were his mother and two brothers. None of them were physically harmed, but the emotional damage is profound and permanent. According to Morgan’s aunt, E. Davis, the teen had been playing video games in his room when the bullets came through the window. “He was minding his business, doing nothing,” she said. “Just sitting in his room. And now he’s gone.” Neighbors reported seeing teenagers flee the area after the shooting, running through backyards and hopping fences. It’s believed that the bullets that ended Morgan’s life were not intended for him—but that provides no comfort to the family who has now buried a child.

Morgan had just graduated from eighth grade. He was a quiet, kind boy who loved fishing and being outdoors. He was not involved in the dispute that led to his death. He had no part in the argument, no part in the gunfire—and yet, he paid the ultimate price. The family’s home, once filled with laughter and hope, is now filled with grief and silence. The shattered window in Morgan’s bedroom is a cruel reminder of just how fragile safety can be. Davis says the family will never recover from this loss.“My family will never be the same. He didn’t deserve to lose his life like this.” Morgan was not a statistic—he was a son, a brother, a boy with dreams. And now, in the aftermath of a shooting that never should have reached his door, his family is left waiting for someone to be held accountable.
