40-year-old man who broke into his estranged wife’s home just hours after losing their court battle and shot her three times in the head in front of their children, was sentenced

Nevada – In a harrowing case that shook residents in Nevada, a 40-year-old man, identified as Roidan M., will now spend the rest of his life behind bars for the brutal murder of his 34-year-old ex-wife, identified as Marillorky C. Roidan was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, with two additional consecutive terms of 8 to 20 years for using a deadly weapon. The fatal shooting took place just hours after a court granted Marillorky full custody of their children and the family home.

The sentencing, which followed Roidan’s guilty plea on August 25, 2025, marked the end of a legal battle that began after Roidan agreed to a plea deal, avoiding a full trial. As part of that agreement, he also entered an Alford plea in a separate case involving allegations of se-ually assaulting a child under the age of 14. While maintaining his innocence in that matter, he conceded that prosecutors had enough evidence to convict. His defense attorney previously noted that if the Alford plea fell through, the murder plea would also be void.

The killing unfolded on the afternoon of August 17, 2023, inside an apartment complex. Around 2:40 p.m., Marillorky’s daughter called 911, frantically telling dispatchers that Roidan was at the apartment and armed. Gunfire could be heard in the background. When officers arrived, they found the door riddled with bullet holes and forced open. Inside, they discovered Marillorky dead in the hallway, shot three times in the head, including once execution-style in the forehead. According to testimony during sentencing, Roidan had fired 11 rounds into the apartment’s locks before entering. A handgun was recovered at the scene. Two other people, including the victim’s teenage daughter and another individual, were also injured. One was shot in the elbow, the other in the eye. A 2-year-old child, shared by Roidan and Marillorky, was also inside but was unharmed.

Authorities said the shooting followed a tense custody hearing earlier that day, where Marillorky was awarded the children, house, and vehicle. Prosecutors argued this ruling sent Roidan into a violent rage. In court, Deputy District Attorney C. Hallquist described the horror inside the home and the pain endured by the victims. He said Roidan had acted with clear intent, seeking “revenge” and “vindication.”

Marillorky’s daughter, who was 14 years old at the time, fought back during the attack. She stabbed Roidan in the back with a knife in a desperate attempt to protect her family. Roidan took the blade and attempted to slash her, but she managed to defend herself, sustaining cuts to her hands. “I had to protect what I had left,” she told the court during sentencing. “So I grabbed a knife from the ground, and I planned to kill him.” The teenager added, “I was a 14-year-old girl trying to defend myself and my family.”

Roidan, speaking through an interpreter, apologized during the hearing. He insisted he had not gone to the apartment “with the intention to harm anyone.” Roidan’s defense attorney acknowledged that his client had lost control. “He didn’t want this to happen,” the lawyer said. “But being upset and angry and injured, he entered into this red zone of emotions.” The court was unmoved. With Roidan now sentenced to life without parole and additional time for the use of a deadly weapon, a long and tragic chapter has drawn to a close. Yet for Marillorky’s family, especially her children, the emotional scars remain—and no sentence will ever undo the devastation of that day.
