Benton, Arkansas – Drivers in Benton should prepare for a short overnight traffic change this weekend as crews complete work aimed at improving directions along Interstate 30. Transportation officials said an on-ramp and multiple travel lanes will be temporarily closed so workers can safely install new overhead signs.
Overnight Closure Planned for Ramp and Lanes
The on-ramp from Sevier Street and South Street to Interstate 30 eastbound is scheduled to close overnight from 8 p.m. Sunday, March 15, to 6 a.m. Monday, March 16. During that same period, the right and middle eastbound lanes of I-30 at the same location will also be closed.
Officials said the work is weather permitting, and the closures are necessary so crews can install new overhead signage. Because overhead sign work requires equipment and crews positioned above or near active traffic lanes, the area must be shut down to protect both drivers and workers.
Motorists who still need to access I-30 eastbound while the Sevier Street and South Street ramp is closed will be directed to an alternate route. Officials said drivers can use the on-ramp from West Carpenter Street at Exit 117 to enter the interstate and continue eastbound.
To help minimize confusion, the work zone will be clearly marked. Officials said digital message boards, construction barrels, barricades, and signage will be placed in advance to warn drivers about the closure and to guide them along the detour route.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down near work crews, follow posted signs, and allow extra travel time during the overnight work window.
