Pine Bluff, Arkansas – A suspect wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Pine Bluff has been taken into custody after a coordinated effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
The Pine Bluff Police Department confirmed that Akyell Malik Madison, 20, is now in custody for his alleged role in a December shooting at the SOS convenience store located at 3402 Old Warren Road. The case centers on the death of 29-year-old Marcus Jackson, who was killed during the incident.
Arrest follows coordinated surveillance and SWAT response
According to authorities, detectives had been actively working to locate Madison for some time. Investigators, including a Pine Bluff detective assigned to an FBI Task Force, received new information about his whereabouts. Acting on that intelligence, Pine Bluff detectives began surveillance at the identified location early in the morning.
Once Madison’s presence was confirmed, officers moved forward with a plan to safely take him into custody. Because the location fell within another jurisdiction, the North Little Rock Police Department’s SWAT Team was called in to assist with the operation. The specialized unit carried out the extraction, helping ensure the arrest was completed without further incident.
Officials said Madison will now be transported back to Pine Bluff by local officers, where he will face charges related to the case.
Charges upgraded in homicide case
Madison, who investigators believe is responsible for the shooting death of Marcus Jackson, is now facing a charge of Capital Murder. This charge has been added to the original charges tied to the case, reflecting the seriousness of the allegations.
The investigation determined that Madison used a rifle during the incident. Because of this, he had been considered armed and dangerous while still at large, increasing the urgency and risk involved in locating and arresting him.
Officials credit teamwork and community support
Police emphasized that the successful arrest was the result of strong cooperation between multiple agencies. The Pine Bluff Police Department credited its Detective Division, the North Little Rock Police Department SWAT Team, and other assisting personnel for their roles in bringing the suspect into custody safely.
Authorities also acknowledged the role of the community, thanking residents for their support, patience, and willingness to assist during the investigation. Officials noted that public cooperation can be a key factor in helping law enforcement solve cases and maintain safety.
The case remains active and ongoing, and further developments may be released as the investigation continues.
