AARP Arkansas invites nominations for 2024 Andrus Award for Community Service

Little Rock, Arkansas – AARP Arkansas has announced that it is now accepting nominations for the 2024 Andrus Award for Community Service. This prestigious award recognizes Arkansans aged 50 and older who have made significant contributions to their communities through volunteer service.

“AARP Arkansas is excited to highlight Arkansans 50-plus who are investing their time and resources to improve their communities,” said Ashley McBride, AARP Arkansas State Director. This recognition is part of AARP’s mission to honor those who make a powerful difference in their communities, reflecting the organization’s vision and mission.

Eligibility and Nomination Process

To be considered for the Andrus Award, nominees must meet several eligibility requirements. Nominees must be at least 50 years old, and the activities for which they are nominated must be volunteer-based, without monetary compensation. While volunteers receiving small stipends to cover costs are eligible, partisan political activities do not qualify. The work must align with AARP’s vision and purpose, be replicable, and inspire others to volunteer. Additionally, couples or partners who volunteer together can be nominated, but teams are not eligible. Previous recipients and current members of the selection committee, as well as AARP staff, are not eligible for the award. Notably, this award is not given posthumously.

Nominations will be evaluated by a committee of AARP Arkansas staff and volunteers. The selection process will consider the impact of the nominee’s volunteer work on the community, how well it reflects AARP’s goals, and its potential to inspire other volunteers. The recipient of the award will be announced in early fall.

Recognizing Outstanding Community Service

The Andrus Award for Community Service is an annual program developed by AARP to honor individuals whose volunteer service makes a significant and valuable contribution to society. Last year, AARP recognized 49 remarkable individuals and couples from across the United States for their outstanding volunteer efforts.

Those interested in nominating someone for the 2024 Andrus Award for Community Service can find the nomination form and further details at aarp.org/AndrusAward. The deadline for submitting nominations is August 20.

AARP’s Commitment to Community

AARP’s Andrus Award for Community Service is a testament to the organization’s commitment to encouraging volunteerism and community service among older adults. By recognizing those who have dedicated their time and efforts to improving their communities, AARP aims to inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
