Arkansas officials to host ribbon-cutting for Interstate 30 Crossing project in downtown Little Rock

Weekend closure of I-55 bridge set to impact drivers between Arkansas and Tennessee

Little Rock, Arkansas – The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT), along with elected officials, Arkansas State Highway Commission members, and other community leaders, invites the public to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorating the completion of the 30 Crossing project. This event, scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, will be held in the southwest parking lot of the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum, located at 1200 President Clinton Avenue in Little Rock.

Transforming Central Arkansas’s Most Traveled Corridor

The 30 Crossing project represents a significant milestone in improving Interstate 30 (I-30), the backbone of the central Arkansas freeway network. This highway not only connects key interstates and freeways but also supports heavy regional travel. When construction commenced, I-30 carried around 120,000 vehicles daily, with projections estimating 143,000 vehicles per day by 2045.

This project addressed growing traffic demands by reconstructing and enhancing operations along this critical stretch, which serves downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock. The upgrades include improved interchanges at Interstates 30 and 40, as well as Interstates 30 and 630, widened lanes, ramp improvements, overpass updates, and the addition of a new bridge over the Arkansas River.

Arkansas’s First Design-Build Project

The 30 Crossing project stands out as Arkansas’s first design-build initiative, combining design and construction under a single contract. This innovative approach has ensured a more efficient, transparent, and cost-effective process. The job, awarded in 2019 to Kiewit-Massman Construction, exemplifies the state’s commitment to adopting modern infrastructure solutions.

A Vital Upgrade for the Region

As one of the busiest highways in Arkansas, I-30 is crucial for both regional and interstate connectivity. These upgrades promise to reduce congestion, improve travel times, and accommodate future growth in central Arkansas.

Residents and stakeholders can find more details about the project by visiting 30Crossing.com.

Join the celebration on December 3 to mark the completion of this transformative project, which will benefit the Little Rock and North Little Rock communities for years to come.
