Fayetteville, Arkansas – A 51-year-old man from Fayetteville has been sentenced to over two decades behind bars. On November 21, Torrance Dejuan Farmer, Sr. was given a total of 248 months in federal prison after being convicted of one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentencing was handed down by Chief Judge Timothy L. Brooks in the United States District Court in Fayetteville.
Altercation Turns Violent and Leads to Police Pursuit
The events leading to Farmer’s conviction stemmed from a heated dispute with his daughter. According to evidence presented during the two-day trial in August, Farmer became enraged after discovering that drug money had gone missing. In a chilling escalation, he reportedly “threatened to kill her” during the confrontation. The situation intensified as Farmer ordered his wife to pursue their daughter in a vehicle while he held a firearm in his hand.
The chase came to a terrifying moment when Farmer fired the weapon near a Braum’s restaurant located at 2511 North College Avenue in Fayetteville. A nearby Fayetteville Police Officer spotted the vehicle near Drake Street and initiated a pursuit. During the chase, the officer witnessed Farmer toss the firearm out of the car window onto an overpass above Interstate 49.
The pursuit ended shortly after, and both Farmer and his wife were taken into custody without further incident. The firearm was later recovered.
Lengthy Criminal Record and Armed Career Criminal Designation
Farmer’s sentencing was significantly influenced by his extensive criminal history. He has prior felony convictions involving violent crimes and serious drug offenses, which qualified him as an Armed Career Criminal under federal law. This designation carries enhanced penalties for repeat offenders found in possession of firearms.
Now sentenced to 248 months—more than 20 years—Farmer’s case stands as a sharp reminder of the consequences of firearm possession by individuals with violent pasts. The case was prosecuted as part of federal efforts to reduce gun violence and hold repeat offenders accountable.
