Bellamy Theater at The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, located at 701 S. Main St. in Pine Bluff.

The production will be performed over two weekends, giving families and theater lovers several opportunities to enjoy the popular stage adaptation of the well-known DreamWorks film.

Performance dates include 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 7 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2.

The production is sponsored by Simmons Bank.

A familiar fairy tale with music and humor

Set in a magical kingdom, the story follows Shrek, played by Raymond Wallace, a green ogre who enjoys living alone in the peace and quiet of his swamp. His quiet life changes when a group of fairy-tale characters who have been forced from their homes suddenly arrive and take over his property.

Determined to get his swamp back, Shrek agrees to set out on a journey with the energetic and talkative Donkey, portrayed by KC Rowland. Their mission leads them to the powerful and selfish Lord Farquaad, played by Patrick DePriest.

Along the way, the pair rescue Princess Fiona, portrayed by Karis Files, who is keeping an unexpected secret that changes the course of the story.

Filled with comedy, memorable songs, and heartfelt moments, the musical explores the importance of friendship, accepting others, and discovering that true beauty comes from within rather than appearance. It also reminds audiences that love and happiness can often be found in the most surprising places.

Experienced creative team leads the production

“Shrek the Musical” is the stage adaptation of the popular DreamWorks animated movie, which was inspired by William Steig’s children’s book “Shrek!” The musical features music by Jeanine Tesori, while the book and lyrics were written by David Lindsay-Abaire.

The ARTx3 production is directed by Bethany Gere, with La’Leata May serving as musical director. Grace McKissic is responsible for choreography, while Emily Jackson serves as stage manager, helping coordinate the performances behind the scenes.

Organizers recommend the production for audiences 8 years of age and older. The musical carries a PG rating because it contains a small amount of mild language and a few jokes intended for older audience members.

Tickets are priced at $25 and can be purchased online, by phone, or in person at The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas. Those seeking additional information about the performances or ticket availability can also contact theater and programs coordinator Bethany Gere at [email protected] or call 870-536-3375.
