ARTx3 Campus invites young talents to audition for the production “Roald Dahl’s Matilda: The Musical”

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – The ARTx3 Campus is gearing up for an exciting production of “Roald Dahl’s Matilda: The Musical,” with a special audition prep workshop and open auditions for young talents. This event promises to be a fantastic opportunity for aspiring performers to step into the magical world of Matilda, a story that has captivated audiences around the globe.

Audition Prep Workshop and Auditions Details

On Saturday, February 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the campus will host a preparatory workshop specifically designed for those interested in auditioning for the musical. This workshop, although not mandatory for auditioning, is highly recommended to help participants aged 18 and younger get ready for their auditions. It’s a unique chance to fine-tune their skills under the guidance of seasoned professionals. Registration for this workshop must be done separately from the auditions.

The auditions themselves are scheduled for Friday, February 23, from 6–9 p.m., and Sunday, February 25, from 2:30–7 p.m., welcoming individuals aged 8 and older. Both the workshop and auditions will be held in the Catherine M. Bellamy Theater at The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, located at 701 S. Main St.

Performance Dates and Cast Requirements

Those who successfully audition will take part in performances slated for 7:30 p.m. on July 19-20 and July 26-27, with matinee shows at 2 p.m. on July 21 and July 28, all to be held in the Bellamy Theater. It’s crucial for cast members to be available for all scheduled performances to ensure a seamless run of the show.

“Matilda” tells the tale of an extraordinary little girl with equally extraordinary powers. Facing adversity from her abusive parents and the cruel headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, Matilda discovers her unique abilities and the courage to stand up for herself and others. Adapted for the stage by Dennis Kelly, with musical direction by John Alec Briggs and choreography by Grace McKissic, this production is directed by veteran community performer and ARTx3 Public Programs Coordinator Bethany Gere. The production proudly carries the sponsorship of Simmons Bank.

For those interested in being a part of this production, registration for both the audition and the workshop is available at artx3.org/auditions. If you have any inquiries, contact Lindsey Collins at [email protected] or by calling 870-536-3375.
