ARTx3 Campus to host auditions for “Night of the Living Dead Live” this weekend

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – The ARTx3 Campus in Pine Bluff is set to host auditions for the upcoming production of “George A. Romero’s Night of The Living Dead Live.” The auditions will take place from 12-4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, located at 701 S. Main St. in Pine Bluff, in the Catherine M. Bellamy Theater. The production is directed by Jonathan R. Hoover and promises to be a thrilling and hilarious reimagining of the classic horror film.

A Fresh Take on a Horror Classic

“Night of the Living Dead™ Live” is a unique stage adaptation of George A. Romero’s iconic 1968 horror film. Written by Christopher Bond, Dale Boyer, and Trevor Martin, and created by Christopher Harrison and Phil Pattison, the play brings the original black-and-white film to life on stage, blending humor with horror. Set in the same year the movie was released, the play explores not just the story of the living dead but also the era in which it was created and its lasting impact on the horror genre.

The production goes beyond merely recreating the film’s storyline. Through a series of multiple endings, the characters face various challenges and conflicts that prevent them from working together effectively. This adds a layer of suspense as the audience is left wondering whether anyone will survive the night of the living dead. The play’s creative approach makes it a must-see for fans of the original film and newcomers alike.

Open Auditions for All

The auditions are open to individuals aged 16 and older, and no prior acting experience is required. Those interested in auditioning are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the original “Night of the Living Dead” film, which is in the public domain and available for free on YouTube. The audition process will include reading sides from the play, a short movement exercise, and a brief singing audition, although the play is not a musical. As the play includes a simple musical number, those auditioning will be asked to sing a few bars of any song, even something as simple as “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”

Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and shoes that allow easy movement, as part of the audition will involve a movement exercise. The audition is designed to be a fun and engaging process, welcoming everyone, whether seasoned performers or complete beginners.

Performance Details and Registration

The performances of “Night of the Living DeadTM Live” are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-19, and Oct. 25-26, at the Catherine M. Bellamy Theater at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas.
