ASC to host Gary Cawood’s “Field Notes” photography exhibition

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – The Arts & Science Center (ASC) is set to host an opening reception for the photography exhibition “Field Notes” by artist Gary Cawood. This event will take place on Friday, January 19, from 5-7 p.m., promising to offer attendees a unique visual experience. The exhibition is located in the Loft Gallery at The ARTSpace on Main, situated at 623 S. Main St.

Gary Cawood’s photographic work is distinctively focused on landscapes that have undergone change due to human interference, such as abandoned quarries or areas undergoing new construction. His fascination lies in observing how the natural world reclaims and transforms these disturbed sites. Through his lens, Cawood captures the gradual shift from the new and pristine to the aged and worn, a testament to nature’s persistent and inevitable influence.

The “Field Notes” series showcases 33 images, each emphasizing the element of scale within visual composition. Cawood skillfully integrates measuring scales into his scenes, playing with the perception of size and space. His approach often renders the effect ambiguous, blurring the line between the factual and the interpretative.

The exhibition is set to be on display until Wednesday, April 24, giving art enthusiasts ample time to engage with Cawood’s compelling photographic narratives. This event is sponsored by Relyance Bank, supporting the arts and cultural enrichment in the community. Attendees of the opening reception and visitors to the exhibition can expect to delve into a world where human alterations and natural transformations coexist, captured through the insightful perspective of Gary Cawood.
