Body of 8-month-old girl who was missing for months discovered “hidden in concealed manner” at parent’s home; family faces charges

Louisville, Kentucky – Authorities have confirmed the recovery of human remains believed to be those of an 8-month-old girl who vanished several months ago. The discovery has led to a series of arrests and brought to light a harrowing tale of neglect, drug abuse, and organized crime.

The investigation into the baby’s disappearance began on June 6, following a welfare check at the home of her parents, T. Tucker and C. Rudd. During the search, authorities uncovered evidence leading to multiple arrests on various charges, including drug-related offenses, child abuse, and abandonment.

The baby’s paternal grandfather, R. Smith, faced additional charges, including possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Also arrested were the baby’s maternal grandmother, B. Smith, on an outstanding domestic violence warrant, and other family associates involved in criminal activities.

Authorities intensified their efforts to locate the missing baby, utilizing cadaver dogs to search surrounding areas, including a local cemetery. Despite these exhaustive efforts, the baby remained missing until a pivotal moment on June 14, when detectives conducted another search of the Rudd-Tucker home. During this search, they discovered the child’s remains hidden in a concealed manner amidst considerable clutter and debris.

This discovery has led to additional charges for Tucker, Rudd, Smith, and a roommate, B. Payne, who are now also facing accusations of abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and failure to report a death.

According to authorities, the conditions within the home were appalling. The environment was described as cluttered, dirty, and hazardous, contaminated extensively with drug residues. The baby’s remains were reportedly found under a significant amount of debris, indicating the severe neglect and hazardous conditions she was subjected to.

The suspects are currently held without bond, and the case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting severe issues related to drug abuse and child safety. The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy that will hopefully shed light on the exact cause and manner of her death. This tragic case has now transitioned into a new phase of investigation, as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the untimely death of the 8-month-old girl.
