California man charged in Thanksgiving Day shooting in Arkansas

Dermott, Arkansas – A shooting incident in Dermott on Thanksgiving Day, resulted in the death of a 36-year-old Monticello man, Michael Carter. The suspect, a 49-year-old California man named Zousah Jackson, has since turned himself into the Arkansas authorities.

The Incident and Investigation

The Dermott Police Department (DPD) and Arkansas State Police reported that the shooting occurred at around 10:53 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Responding to a distress call about a shooting at a residence in the 100 block of South Knox Street in Dermott, DPD officers were dispatched to the scene.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered Michael Carter in the front doorway of the home. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances that led to the shooting are under investigation by the ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Zousah Jackson is facing serious charges in connection with the incident. He has been charged with Second-Degree Murder relating to the death of Michael Carter and being a felon in possession of a firearm. These charges highlight the gravity of the situation and the legal consequences that follow such tragic events.

Autopsy and Further Investigations

To ascertain the precise manner and cause of Michael Carter’s death, his body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab. This step is crucial in piecing together the events of that fateful night and providing necessary information for the ongoing investigation.
