“Come and get your baby, she is at the door;” Woman, who left baby girl strapped in a car seat in the middle of the night in front of her father’s home, was arrested

Texas – In a shocking incident in Texas, a 26-year-old woman, identified as A. Bailey, is facing serious legal consequences after she abandoned a baby in the middle of the night, leaving the child alone outside her father’s home and sending taunting messages to the man about the baby’s whereabouts. Bailey was arrested and charged with one count of abandoning or endangering a child without the intent to return, a third-degree felony under Texas law that carries a possible penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Authorities confirmed Bailey’s arrest last week after the incident drew the attention of police officers responding to a late-night emergency call. The charge stems from a disturbing episode that unfolded just after 2 a.m. on August 20, when Bailey left the baby, strapped into a car seat, outside the home of the baby’s father. According to the arrest report and a criminal complaint, the child’s father called authorities after discovering the infant left unattended at his apartment door. Police arrived at the scene shortly after 2:45 a.m. and spoke with both the father and the baby’s grandmother, who had also been alerted to the situation.

The man told police that at 2:04 a.m., Bailey had sent him a text message stating: “Come and get your baby, she is at the door. Bye. Talk to you tomorrow.” The father claimed he wasn’t aware of the message until roughly 40 minutes later, which meant the baby remained alone outside for more than half an hour in the middle of the night. Further messages from Bailey reportedly dared the father to report her to authorities. In one, she said “IDC. Call CPS on me,” referring to Child Protective Services, and added, “Get your kid, bro.” Another alarming text warned him: “IDC anymore. Hope you get her or someone else is going to her so it’s going to be bad.”

Though it remains unclear if Bailey is the baby’s biological mother, police confirmed she was the one who had custody of the child prior to the incident. The affidavit detailed how her string of texts transitioned from dismissive to desperate, pleading with the father to open the door and retrieve the baby as the minutes passed. Responding officers quickly traced Bailey to her residence. Around 3 a.m., they located her, placed her under arrest, and took her to the county jail for processing. Authorities have since confirmed that she was released on a $5,000 bond. As of now, no future court date has been publicly announced.

Bailey’s motive for the act remains unclear. Police did not elaborate on her relationship to the child, and the police department has not provided additional details. What is evident, however, is the risk the child faced during those critical minutes outside, alone and vulnerable. The case continues to raise serious concerns about child welfare and parental responsibility. If convicted, Bailey could face a lengthy prison term.
