Drivers advised to prepare for daytime closure of Highway 90 near O’Kean

Drivers advised to prepare for daytime closure of Highway 90 near O’Kean

O’Kean, Arkansas – Motorists traveling through Randolph County should prepare for a temporary road closure on Highway 90 west of O’Kean, scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., as part of a culvert replacement project.

According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation, crews will be replacing a pipe culvert near Dean Road, just west of Highway 231. This maintenance effort will require closing a section of Highway 90 between Highway 67 and Highway 34 for the duration of the day. The work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in case of adverse conditions.

“Highway 90 will remain open to local traffic only on either side of the closure,” officials confirmed. The project is designed to improve roadway drainage and maintain long-term infrastructure stability in the area.

Alternate Routes and Detour Plans

To assist motorists, a clearly marked detour will be in place. For eastbound traffic, the suggested detour route is Highway 90 to Highway 67 north, then to Highway 304 east, followed by Highway 231 south, and back to Highway 90. Meanwhile, westbound traffic can take Highway 90 to Highway 231 north, to Highway 304 west, then Highway 67 south, and return to Highway 90.

Traffic along the impacted route will be controlled with barricades, barrels, and signage to guide travelers safely around the construction zone.

Drivers are encouraged to check IDriveArkansas.com for real-time updates, including any weather-related changes to the schedule. Motorists using the area are advised to plan ahead, follow posted signs, and allow extra time for detours.
