Drivers urged to follow detours as Highway 148 closes near Interstate 55 for long-term construction

Burdette, Arkansas – Motorists traveling near Burdette in Mississippi County should prepare for a full closure of Highway 148 starting Monday, July 28. The Arkansas Department of Transportation has announced that the highway will be shut down around the clock between 8 a.m. on July 28 and 5 p.m. on Monday, August 25, to allow construction crews to carry out essential repairs.

Weather permitting, workers will focus on restoring a section of the highway near Ditch Number 6, located just west of Interstate 55. During this period, the portion of Highway 148 between Highway 181 and Interstate 55 will be accessible only to local traffic.

To help drivers navigate around the closure, detour routes have been clearly established. Eastbound drivers will need to take Highway 181 south to Highway 158, continue east, and then connect to Interstate 55. Westbound travelers should exit Interstate 55 south onto Highway 158, head west, and rejoin Highway 181.

To keep drivers informed and safe, the area will feature digital message boards, construction barrels, barricades, and signs marking the closure and directing traffic along the alternate routes.

For those needing additional travel details or updated traffic conditions, officials recommend visiting IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov. Both platforms provide real-time construction alerts, road conditions, and detour information across the state.

With the repairs scheduled to last nearly a month, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time. Patience and caution are urged while crews work to improve safety and travel quality in the area.
