Fatal crash into Arkansas restaurant leaves one dead

Barling, Arkansas – A devastating crash occurred at the Blue Agave Mexican Grill in west Arkansas on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. This incident has left the local community in shock and mourning.

The Crash and Its Aftermath

The tragedy unfolded when a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, driven by 66-year-old Larry Stevens, failed to stop in the parking lot and crashed through the north wall of the restaurant. Heather White, 48, from Rogers, tragically lost her life in the incident. Four other people, whose ages range from 20 to 70, suffered injuries, with three of them being taken to a hospital due to the severity of their conditions.

Larry Stevens was arrested following the crash. He faces charges of driving while intoxicated, four counts of second-degree battery, and first-degree criminal mischief. Currently, Stevens is being held in the Sebastian County jail with a bond set at $50,000 and is expected to appear in court next week.

The crash, which occurred around 4:30 p.m., caused significant damage to the Barling restaurant, particularly affecting the area where five customers were seated for dinner.

Community Response and Restaurant’s Future

In the wake of this tragedy, Blue Agave Mexican Grill, located just east of Fort Smith in Barling, took to Facebook to express their sorrow and concern. They confirmed that their staff members were safe and uninjured but emphasized their heavy hearts for the customers affected by the incident. The restaurant’s message highlighted their prayers for the injured and an acknowledgment of the traumatic experience for everyone involved.

Blue Agave also mentioned that they are currently unsure about a reopening date, given the extent of the damage caused by the crash. This uncertainty adds to the distress caused by the incident, impacting not only the restaurant’s operations but also its role in the community.

The incident at Blue Agave Mexican Grill serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of accidents and their profound impact on communities. It highlights the need for continued awareness and safety on the roads to prevent such tragedies. As the local community grapples with this event, support and solidarity are crucial in helping those affected to recover and heal.
