Father, who attempted to end his 4-month-old son’s life by giving the boy gasoline to drink before fleeing on foot, was charged

Texas – In a shocking incident in Texas, a young father is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to kill his 4-month-old son by feeding him gasoline. The 24-year-old father, identified as E. Bridgemon, has been charged with attempted capital murder following his arrest earlier this month.

The case came to light on August 10, when deputies from the police department were called to assist at a residence. Upon their arrival, they were informed by emergency first responders that a child had been given gasoline to drink. Bridgemon, identified as the primary suspect and father of the infant, had fled the scene on foot but was apprehended by police just a block away from the home.

During his arrest, Bridgemon shockingly admitted to the act, stating he had intentionally given his son gasoline with the deliberate intention of ending the child’s life. “Bridgemon admitted to having given the infant gasoline to drink with the intention of ending the child’s life,” reported Captain J. Bull. The infant was immediately transported to a medical facility in the area for urgent treatment. The current condition of the child has not been disclosed, but he is receiving care appropriate for the severity of the poisoning.

As for the legal proceedings, Bridgemon is currently detained, with his bond set at $255,000. He faces an attempted capital murder charge, a first-degree felony that could lead to a life sentence if he is convicted. Details about his legal representation were not immediately clear, and it is unknown if he has retained or been assigned an attorney. This is not Bridgemon’s first encounter with the law; public records indicate previous minor charges, including no valid driver’s license, expired registration, and failure to maintain financial responsibility from December 2023. These past legal issues paint a picture of ongoing difficulties for Bridgemon.

The local community and law enforcement are deeply disturbed by the nature of this crime. Authorities have not released further details about the motive or circumstances that led to this horrifying act. The investigation is ongoing, and the district attorney’s office has yet to make a formal statement regarding the case. This case has left the community in shock, trying to comprehend the unimaginable act and hoping for the swift recovery of the innocent infant involved. As the legal process unfolds, many are calling for justice to be served and for measures to be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
