Free Youth Basketball Skillz Workout coming to North Heights Community Center

North Little Rock, Arkansas – The City of North Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department is offering a great opportunity for local children to get active and improve their basketball skills. On Saturday, October 4, 2025, a free Youth Basketball Skillz Workout will be held at the North Heights Community Center. The event is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through third grade and will run from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Coach Butter, well known in the community for his passion and experience in youth sports, will lead the session along with the North Little Rock Parks and Recreation (NLRPR) Athletic Program staff. The focus of the workout will be on developing essential basketball skills such as ball handling, passing, footwork, layups, and overall conditioning.

Organizers say this session is a chance for young athletes to build confidence, practice important fundamentals, and enjoy the game in a supportive and structured environment. By engaging in skill-building drills, participants will learn the basics of the game while having fun and interacting with their peers.

“This is an excellent way to get our youngest players started with a solid foundation,” said a representative from NLRPR’s Program Unit. “We want to promote teamwork, healthy habits, and skill development in a way that’s enjoyable and accessible to every child.”

The Skillz Workout is completely free of charge and no pre-registration is required. It will be operated on a first-come, first-served basis, so families are encouraged to arrive early. The session is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to support youth development and community health through active recreation.

For more information about the event, parents or guardians can contact the NLRPR Program Unit at 501-791-8545.

Whether your child is brand new to basketball or looking to brush up on the basics, this event promises to be a fun and energetic start to their basketball journey.
