Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders seeks federal disaster relief following devastating tornadoes in Arkansas

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announces merit based pay raises for thousands of eligible state employees

Little Rock, Arkansas – Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has officially requested a Major Disaster Declaration from President Donald J. Trump to help support the state’s recovery following the destructive storms and tornadoes that struck on March 14, 2025. This severe weather event left a trail of destruction across multiple counties, damaging infrastructure, homes, and businesses, and leaving significant debris in its wake.

Push for Federal Assistance

“The destruction caused by these tornadoes is devastating. The Arkansans who lost their homes, businesses, and loved ones in this storm need help to get back on their feet and rebuild,” said Governor Sanders. “We are thankful for the leadership of President Trump and I’m submitting this Major Disaster Declaration request and hope we can get additional assistance from the federal government.”

Following the completion of official damage assessments, Governor Sanders has requested federal Individual Assistance and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster loans for residents and businesses in Greene, Hot Spring, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Lawrence, Randolph, Sharp, and Stone counties. These areas were among the hardest hit and are in urgent need of aid to support recovery efforts. Additionally, the Governor has asked for Hazard Mitigation assistance to be applied statewide to reduce the risk and impact of future disasters.

The declaration, if approved, would provide direct assistance to individuals and families, allowing access to housing support, grants, loans, and disaster-related services. The SBA loans would help businesses rebuild, restore operations, and cover uninsured losses.

Governor Sanders’ request represents a coordinated effort between state officials and federal partners to bring much-needed relief to affected Arkansans. As the recovery process continues, state and local agencies are working together to clear debris and assess rebuilding needs.
