Gregory Street closure announced as Jacksonville highway expansion project moves forward

Gregory Street closure announced as Jacksonville highway expansion project moves forward

Jacksonville, Arkansas – The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) has announced that construction work to widen Highway 67/167, also designated as Interstate 57, will lead to the long-term closure of Gregory Street between John Harden Drive and Johnson Street. This closure is set to begin on Tuesday, January 28, and will continue through the end of 2025.

The closure is necessary to facilitate the construction of the new Gregory Street overpass, which will span across Highway 67/167. Weather permitting, crews will move forward with the extensive work required to complete the project safely and efficiently.

Detour and Safety Measures in Place

Motorists are advised to use local roads to navigate around the closure. Despite the ongoing construction, access to nearby businesses will remain available via John Harden Drive. ARDOT has implemented traffic control measures, including message boards, construction barriers, and clear signage, to guide drivers safely through the area. Commuters are urged to exercise caution, follow posted detours, and be prepared for slower traffic speeds in the work zone.

Project Details and Future Improvements

This initiative, known as Job CA0604, is part of ARDOT’s larger Connecting Arkansas Program, which aims to improve roadway capacity and safety across the state. The project will widen a 2.5-mile section of Highway 67 to six lanes between Main Street (Exit 9) and Vandenberg Boulevard (Exit 11). Additionally, several key interchange improvements are included, such as enhancements at James Street (Exit 10A), Gregory Street (Exit 10B), and Vandenberg Boulevard (Exit 11). Another significant change will involve converting the current two-way frontage roads into one-way roads to streamline traffic flow.

The total investment for this project is valued at $145.2 million, with more information available on the Connecting Arkansas Program website at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.

Motorists Advised to Plan Ahead

As the construction continues, drivers should plan for possible delays and stay informed about updates related to the project. ARDOT encourages residents to stay alert and follow detour routes to minimize travel disruptions.

The long-term investment in Jacksonville’s infrastructure aims to improve road capacity, enhance safety, and accommodate the region’s growing transportation demands.
