Pine Bluff, Arkansas – A detention deputy from Jefferson County finds herself on the other side of the law. Shacamry Brionna Taylor, 26, a deputy jailer at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center in Pine Bluff, was arrested amidst allegations of attempting to smuggle drugs into the facility.
The incident transpired on a Saturday night as Taylor was commencing her shift at the detention center. Officials from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported that Taylor was caught in the act, with various contraband items confiscated from her possession. The seized items included substances believed to be marijuana and synthetic marijuana, widely recognized as K2, along with tobacco.
Following the discovery, Taylor faced swift legal repercussions. She was booked into the same detention center where she worked. Subsequently, she faces serious charges, including furnishing, possessing, or using prohibited articles, and possession of a controlled substance. After spending a brief time incarcerated, Taylor was released by midday on the following Monday.
Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. spoke out about the incident, emphasizing the detrimental impact such actions have on public confidence. He stated, “This arrest, like others in the past, also speaks to our commitment to the public in pursuing charges against those who violate the public’s trust and threaten the security of our detention facilities.”
As of now, officials remain tight-lipped regarding the identity of the intended recipient of the smuggled drugs within the detention facility. This incident underscores the challenges that correctional facilities face, not just from inmates but occasionally from those tasked with maintaining law and order within their walls.
