Pine Bluff, Arkansas – The ARTx3 Campus is excited to present “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical,” an enchanting production that promises to captivate audiences of all ages.
This much-anticipated production will unfold on the stage of the Catherine M. Bellamy Theater located at 701 S. Main St., Pine Bluff. The performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, July 19-20 and July 26-27, and matinees at 2 p.m. on Sundays, July 21 and July 28.
“Matilda” tells the story of an extraordinary little girl who possesses equally extraordinary powers. Amidst the challenges of having cruel and abusive parents, Matilda finds solace and escape in the world of books. Not only does she devour library books at an astonishing rate, but she also crafts her own imaginative stories. School life proves to be just as harsh under the tyranny of the wicked headmistress, Miss Trunchbull. However, it is through these trials that Matilda discovers and harnesses her unique powers to stand up against the oppressive adults around her.
The cast features a diverse group of talented actors, including Addie Ashcraft, Isaiah Austin, Emily Burris, Allison Carraway, and many others, who bring depth and dynamism to the production. Directed by Bethany Gere, with musical direction by Melody Gere and choreography by Grace McKissic, the production promises to be a compelling display of talent and creativity. Kayla Earnest oversees the seamless flow of the production as the stage manager.
The musical is adapted from Roald Dahl’s beloved novel “Matilda” by Dennis Kelly, with catchy and emotive original songs by Tim Minchin that are sure to resonate with the audience. This production not only captures the whimsical and resilient spirit of its protagonist but also delivers powerful messages about empowerment and justice.
