Mena, Arkansas – A lucky Arkansan is celebrating after claiming a substantial Powerball® prize from the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery. David W. of Mena secured an impressive $100,000 win in the October 5 Powerball drawing, with his prize officially claimed on October 25.
A Routine Play Turns into a Big Win
David purchased the winning ticket at Exxon Superstation #2, located at 901 Highway 71 N. in Mena, as part of his regular lottery routine. Reflecting on his usual expectations, David remarked, “I might win $20,” never imagining that his ticket would earn him such a large payout.
The winning numbers for the drawing were 2, 12, 46, 52, and 65, with the Powerball number being 3. Although David matched four of the five regular numbers and the Powerball number, he initially won $50,000. However, because he added the Power Play® multiplier to his ticket, the prize doubled to $100,000.
A Pleasant Surprise
When David realized his good fortune, he immediately shared the news with his wife. “We were just totally surprised,” he told lottery officials. The couple couldn’t believe their luck and found themselves reflecting on how close David had come to an even more extraordinary prize.
“I was just one number away from the $302 million jackpot,” David noted. “I don’t even know how I would’ve reacted to that,” he added with a laugh.
Planning the Prize
With the winnings in hand, David mentioned that he would consult with his wife before deciding how to use the prize money. For now, the couple is basking in their unexpected good fortune, excited for what the future holds.
Powerball Jackpot Still Up for Grabs
The Powerball jackpot has now climbed to $28 million for tonight’s drawing, giving other hopeful Arkansans a chance to follow in David’s footsteps.
