Mother left her 4-7-and-12-year-old boys in the care of her female roommates only for the women to beat the boys with a belt and other objects over unsatisfactorily completed chores

Texas – In a disturbing incident in Texas, two women were arrested under severe allegations of child abuse involving three young boys. The suspects, a 19-year-old woman identified as H. Blevins and a 30-year-old woman, identified as J. Cook, face multiple felony charges of injury to a child after they reportedly used extreme measures, including a spiked dog leash and belts, to discipline the children for inadequately performed chores.

The incident came to light when the mother of the affected children, ages 12, 7, and 4, returned home from work on October 11 to discover her sons had been subjected to harsh physical punishment. She had left the boys in the care of her roommates, Blevins and Cook, while she was at work. Upon her return, her eldest son detailed how they were beaten for not completing household chores to the satisfaction of the caregivers.

The chores assigned to the children were notably demanding for their age, including dishwashing, relocating a mattress outside, and moving heavy furniture. According to the arrest affidavit, the failure to perform these tasks “to her satisfaction” led Blevins to initiate the abuse, with Cook participating. The eldest child reported being struck over 20 times, leading to visible marks and welts on the legs and buttocks of all three boys—a clear sign of the severity of the beatings.

The mother immediately reported the incident to the police department on October 15, prompting a swift response. Detective C. Schmidt took charge of the investigation, quickly involving the children’s advocacy center to provide specialized care and interview the young victims. The findings from these interviews supported the issuance of arrest warrants for both Blevins and Cook.

Local police officers B. Thomes and D. Fleming arrested the suspects at their residence without incident. They were then transported to jail pending bond settings. At the time of reporting, the legal proceedings were still in preparation stages, with the charges including three counts of felony injury to a child against Blevins and two against Cook.

The boys’ mother, who had recently moved in with Cook and subsequently allowed Blevins to join due to housing difficulties, expressed regret over her decision, particularly concerning Blevins, whom she knew had a history of mental health issues. This case has highlighted critical issues surrounding the vetting and monitoring of individuals in close contact with children, especially in informal caregiving settings.

The community and law enforcement expressed deep disturbance over the case. “This family was a pillar in our community and very good people. It’s very senseless that they had to die this way,” remarked an official from the local sheriff’s office, underscoring the gravity and brutal nature of the crimes committed.

As the legal process unfolds, the focus remains on the wellbeing of the children involved, now safe from further harm but facing the long road of recovery from their traumatic experiences. The community has rallied to support the victims, with local child advocacy groups stepping up to provide necessary psychological and legal assistance.

Both Blevins and Cook await further court proceedings while the boys are receiving ongoing care from child protection services to ensure their safety and recovery. The case continues to develop, with the community and authorities calling for stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
