West Memphis, Arkansas – Drivers traveling across the Mississippi River between Memphis and West Memphis should prepare for overnight traffic restrictions this week as maintenance crews perform routine work on the Interstate 40 Hernando de Soto Bridge.
According to transportation officials, the eastbound inside and middle lanes on the bridge will be closed nightly beginning Monday night, June 15, and continuing through Friday morning, June 19. The closures are scheduled to take place each night from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.
Overnight maintenance planned
The temporary lane restrictions will affect eastbound traffic crossing the Hernando de Soto Bridge, which connects Memphis and West Memphis.
Officials said the work is weather-dependent and could be adjusted if conditions are unfavorable.
Crews will be conducting routine bridge maintenance designed to keep the structure in good condition and ensure safe travel for motorists using one of the region’s busiest river crossings.
To help drivers navigate the work zone, transportation officials said digital message boards, traffic cones, and warning signs will be placed near the construction area. These measures are intended to alert motorists about the lane closures and encourage them to use caution while traveling through the area.
Motorists should expect possible delays during overnight hours and are encouraged to plan ahead if they regularly use the bridge during the maintenance period.
Officials also reminded travelers that updated traffic and road condition information is available at IDriveArkansas.com or ARDOT.gov. The maintenance work is expected to conclude by the morning of June 19, provided weather conditions allow crews to remain on schedule.
