Little Rock, Arkansas – A new opportunity is now available for those seeking to advance education, industry training, and workforce development in transportation. The Transportation-Related Research and Workforce Development Grant Program (TRRWDGP) has officially opened its latest application cycle, offering funding for eligible projects. While the program supports various transportation-related initiatives, applicants should note that funding cannot be used for highway improvements.
The TRRWDGP was established through Act 705 of 2017 and later expanded by Act 884 of 2021. Its primary purpose is to support innovative and sustainable approaches within the transportation sector. The program specifically aims to assist in two critical areas. First, it backs research into materials and sources that will help develop resilient, cost-effective logistics, processes, and methods while also promoting educational and economic growth. Second, it supports programs related to industry training, apprenticeships, and personnel development within the transportation field.
The program is supported by up to $500,000 annually, funded by interest income from the State Highway and Transportation Department Fund under AR Code § 27-70-204 (2017). These funds are set aside each year to ensure ongoing support for research and workforce development in the transportation sector.
