Overnight closures and lane reductions to affect traffic during Jacksonville highway widening project

Overnight ramp closures scheduled in Pulaski County as crews test new wrong way detection systems

Jacksonville, Arkansas – Motorists traveling through Jacksonville should prepare for overnight delays as construction to widen Highway 67/167 (Interstate 57) to six lanes enters a critical phase. The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) has announced a series of intermittent closures and lane reductions that will impact traffic between Main Street and Vandenberg Boulevard starting the evening of Friday, June 27, and continuing through Friday, July 18, weather permitting.

These closures and lane reductions are necessary for bridge work and other expansion efforts aimed at improving safety and traffic flow through the heavily traveled corridor.

Full Closures in 15-Minute Increments

Two nights of full highway and frontage road closures will take place in 15-minute intervals as crews work on the overpass bridges:

  • Sunday, June 29, from 8 p.m. to Monday, June 30, at 6 a.m.: All northbound lanes of Highway 67/167 (I-57) and TP White Drive between North James Street and Vandenberg Boulevard will be temporarily closed multiple times throughout the night to allow for bridge construction.

  • Tuesday, July 8, from 8 p.m. to Wednesday, July 9, at 6 a.m.: All southbound lanes of Highway 67/167 (I-57) and John Harden Drive in the same area will undergo similar 15-minute closures for additional bridge work.

Overnight Lane Reductions

In addition to the full closures, northbound and southbound lanes will be reduced to one lane in each direction during overnight hours:

  • From 8 p.m. Friday, June 27, through 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 2

  • From 8 p.m. Monday, July 7, through 6 a.m. Friday, July 18

These lane reductions will affect a large portion of the corridor, leading to expected longer travel times and congestion.

Traffic Management and Safety

To manage the expected traffic buildup, ARDOT will use police escorts, message boards, construction barrels, barricades, and signage to guide drivers safely through the area. Officials are urging all motorists to reduce speed, follow posted signs, and remain alert in the work zones.

The bridge work and lane expansions are part of the broader effort to transform Highway 67/167 into future Interstate 57, an upgrade designed to accommodate growth and enhance connectivity in Central Arkansas.
