Pine Bluff families encouraged to register for free literacy event designed to inspire young readers and writers

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – Families with young children are invited to take part in a special opportunity to foster a love for reading and writing. Ms. Madkin’s Literacy Class, designed for children ages 3 to 6, will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, located at 701 S. Main St.

Led by Melanie Madkin, the founder of Ms. Madkin’s Literacy Program, the class offers a quiet and nurturing space where young learners can experience the joys of reading, writing, and expression. The event promises an interactive experience, encouraging children to “Come Read, Sing, Dance, and Play with Me!” while building foundational literacy skills in a fun and engaging way.

Participation in the program is completely free, though registration is required to secure a spot. The deadline to register is May 6. Families can sign up by visiting artx3.org/all-events/literacy-may-2025 or by calling 870-536-3375.

The program is made possible with support from McFarland Eye Care, which has sponsored the event to ensure access for the community. Melanie Madkin’s goal is to foster excitement for the “wonderful world” of reading and writing through positive and supportive learning experiences that inspire young children to engage with books and storytelling.

For additional details about the event, interested families can reach out to Bethany Gere, theater and programs coordinator, at [email protected] or call 870-536-3375.

With a focus on fun, creativity, and learning, Ms. Madkin’s Literacy Class invites children to step into the magical world of literacy and begin their journey toward becoming enthusiastic and confident readers and writers.
