Pine Bluff gains national recognition as Mayor Vivian Flowers joins African American Mayors Association leadership board

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – The City of Pine Bluff is celebrating a moment of growing national recognition after Mayor Vivian Flowers was selected to serve on the Board of Trustees for the African American Mayors Association (AAMA). The organization is a national network of African American municipal leaders dedicated to strengthening cities and promoting fair public policy across the United States. Her appointment places Pine Bluff in a prominent leadership circle and creates new opportunities for collaboration, advocacy, and investment.

Mayor Flowers’ new role gives Pine Bluff a direct voice in shaping national priorities that affect cities across the country. The AAMA Board of Trustees plays a central leadership role in guiding the association’s strategic direction, federal advocacy efforts, and policy initiatives. These initiatives address critical areas such as economic development, public safety, infrastructure, housing, education, and workforce investment — issues that are vital to communities both large and small.

In this leadership capacity, Mayor Flowers will serve alongside notable municipal leaders from across the nation, including Karen Bass, Mayor of Los Angeles; Brandon Scott, Mayor of Baltimore; Steven Reed, Mayor of Montgomery; and Frank Scott Jr., Mayor of Little Rock. Her presence among these leaders further elevates Pine Bluff’s visibility in national conversations about urban growth, equity, and sustainable development.

Mayor Flowers emphasized both the honor and responsibility that comes with the appointment.

“This appointment is not only a great honor and responsibility, but an amazing opportunity to represent and promote Pine Bluff in this national leadership role,” said Mayor Flowers. “Serving on the Board of Trustees allows me to collaborate with mayors from across the country while ensuring that Pine Bluff’s voice, progress, and potential are represented on a national stage. It also opens the door for new partnerships, resources, and innovative solutions that can benefit our residents.”

Expanding Opportunities for Pine Bluff

City leaders view the appointment as especially meaningful because it strengthens Pine Bluff’s access to funding opportunities, national networks, and policy discussions. Through her service, the city will gain increased exposure to federal agencies, philanthropic organizations, and fellow municipal leaders who are working together to address challenges facing mid-sized communities.

The role is expected to create pathways to expanded grant and funding opportunities, national partnerships and pilot programs, policy advocacy that supports cities of similar size, and the sharing of best practices in public safety and community development. It also positions Pine Bluff to explore new strategies for economic growth and infrastructure investment.

Mayor Flowers has remained focused on positioning Pine Bluff as a city driven by progress. Her priorities include investing in youth, strengthening infrastructure, advancing tourism-based economic growth, and improving public safety. City officials say her appointment to the AAMA Board of Trustees reflects recognition of that leadership and offers an additional platform to bring resources, relationships, and visibility back home.

As Pine Bluff continues its forward momentum, the mayor’s national role signals that the city’s voice is growing stronger beyond Arkansas. Through collaboration, policy engagement, and access to new partnerships, Pine Bluff is poised to benefit from connections that can help shape a stronger future for its residents and its community.
