Pine Bluff parents encouraged to register their little ones for an interactive literacy event led by Ms. Madkin

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – Young learners and their caregivers are invited to experience a morning of joyful discovery at Ms. Madkin’s Literacy Class, a hands-on program designed to spark early reading skills through play, movement, and music. Specially tailored for children ages 3 to 6, this free class will take place on Saturday, February 7, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Creative Construction Zone at The Arts & Science Center.

Celebrating Learning, Love, and Culture

This month’s session celebrates both Valentine’s Day and Black History Month, adding a colorful and meaningful twist to the class. Kids are encouraged to come dressed in festive colors—pink, red, and white, or red, green, yellow, and black—to join in the spirit of the season.

The class promises a rich mix of shared reading, music, dancing, storytelling, and hands-on activities, all woven together to help young children grow their vocabulary, build listening skills, and develop the foundations for lifelong literacy. From wiggling to the rhythm of a song to acting out parts of a story, each child is invited to explore language in ways that are playful, interactive, and developmentally appropriate.

Caregivers play a big role in this experience. They’re encouraged to participate alongside their child and pick up simple strategies for supporting literacy at home. Whether it’s singing a favorite rhyme at bedtime or acting out a story with stuffed animals, the class helps turn everyday moments into opportunities for learning.

With a maximum capacity of 15 children, advance registration is required and must be completed by Tuesday, February 3. Both members and non-members can attend at no cost.

Ms. Madkin’s Literacy Class is more than a storytime—it’s a celebration of curiosity, connection, and the joyful magic of learning through movement, music, and love.
