Pine Bluff, Arkansas – Drivers in Pine Bluff will see increased traffic enforcement later this month as local police join a statewide effort focused on reducing speeding and improving roadway safety.
The Pine Bluff Police Department announced it will participate in the Arkansas Highway Safety Office’s S.T.E.P. program, known as the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, from June 21 through June 28, 2026.
The campaign is aimed at addressing speeding, which officials say continues to be one of the leading causes of serious traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities. Law enforcement officials noted that excessive speed can significantly reduce a driver’s ability to respond to unexpected hazards on the road.
Focus on reducing crashes and saving lives
During the weeklong campaign, officers will concentrate on identifying and enforcing speed violations throughout Pine Bluff.
According to police, speeding creates several dangers for motorists. Drivers traveling too fast often need more distance to stop safely and have less time to react when traffic conditions change. Higher speeds can also make collisions much more severe when crashes occur.
Officials stressed that the enforcement effort is about more than issuing tickets. The primary goal is to encourage safer driving habits and reduce the risk of preventable accidents.
In announcing the campaign, the department emphasized that roadway safety benefits everyone who uses city streets, including drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
Police are encouraging motorists to pay attention to posted speed limits and make safety a priority whenever they get behind the wheel.
The department shared a simple message for the public during the campaign: “Slow down. Obey the speed limit. Arrive alive.”
