Public invited to join the annual Pearl Harbor remembrance ceremony in North Little Rock honoring the lives lost on December 7, 1941

North Little Rock, Arkansas – The Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum is inviting the public to attend its annual Pearl Harbor Ceremony on December 7, 2024, to honor the memory of those who lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The event, free and open to the public, will take place at the museum, with an alternative location at The River House, located just east of the museum’s parking lot inside the sea-wall, in case of inclement weather.

Honoring the Sacrifice and Resilience of the Greatest Generation

The ceremony will feature remarks by Commander Sterling D. “Rooster” Claypoole, USNR, and North Little Rock Mayor Terry C. Hartwick. On this National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, the event will honor the 2,403 service members and civilians whose lives were tragically lost during the attack on Pearl Harbor. It also serves as a tribute to the resilience and courage of America’s Armed Forces, who responded to the attack with an unwavering commitment to freedom and justice.

“The attack on Pearl Harbor marked a dark moment in history, but it also ignited a unity and determination that propelled our nation toward victory,” the museum stated. This event is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the Greatest Generation and their dedication to defending democracy across the globe.

From Tragedy to Triumph

The Pearl Harbor commemoration also reflects on the profound triumphs that arose from the devastation of World War II. The resilience shown in the aftermath of the attack led to the defeat of fascism, the establishment of lasting alliances, and the creation of a global order rooted in liberty and justice.

As the ceremony honors the past, it also highlights the enduring strength of the American people. “We do not break, we never give in, and we never back down,” the ceremony organizers emphasized.

The museum encourages community members to join in this meaningful commemoration, reflecting on the sacrifices and victories that define the nation’s history. For more information, visit the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum’s website or contact their offices.
