Section of Highway 164 near Harmony will be closed in early March for important road improvements

Clarksville, Arkansas – Motorists in Johnson County should prepare for a temporary road closure as Highway 164 near Harmony is scheduled to close around the clock from 7 a.m. on Monday, March 3, to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 14. This closure is necessary to allow crews to replace a drainage structure and improve the roadway.

Bridge Removal and Detour Routes

The closure will take place 2.5 miles west of the intersection at Highway 103, where the existing narrow bridge will be removed and replaced with a box culvert. This construction aims to enhance the road’s durability and safety for motorists.

To alert travelers, digital message boards, construction barrels, barricades, and signage will be placed along the affected area. Drivers on either side of the closure must plan alternate routes to navigate the affected stretch.

Detour Routes for Motorists

For those traveling east on Highway 164 from Highway 103, the detour will follow:

  • Take Highway 103 south to Clarksville
  • Continue west on Highway 64
  • Merge onto Interstate 40 westbound
  • Exit at 47 and head north on Highway 164

For those traveling west on Highway 164 from Highway 103, the detour will follow:

  • Take Highway 164 south to Interstate 40 eastbound
  • Exit at 55
  • Take Highway 64 east to Clarksville
  • Head north on Highway 103

Motorists should allow extra time for travel and stay updated on weather conditions, as unfavorable weather may impact the construction timeline.
