Texas – In a deeply disturbing incident in Texas, a 50-year-old woman, identified as W. Medina, has been charged with capital murder after authorities say she stabbed her 9-year-old son multiple times while he lay in bed. Medina was arrested and booked into the county jail, where she remains held on a $600,000 bond for the murder of her son.
The charge stems from an early morning incident on September 3, when police responded to a 911 call around 5 a.m. The call led officers to a home, where they discovered the child suffering from numerous stab wounds to the neck and chest. He was rushed to the hospital by emergency medical personnel but died shortly after arrival. When officers arrived on the scene, they were met by the boy’s father—an officer with the police department—who was physically restraining Medina. Her shirt was soaked in blood. According to the arrest affidavit, the father had returned home after working a night shift when he heard a scream from his son’s room. The door was locked, so he forced it open. Inside, he found a horrific scene: his son’s lifeless body lying in bed, Medina holding him with one arm and gripping a knife with the other.
He attempted to stop her and wrestled the weapon away. During this struggle, Medina allegedly said, “This is what you want.” As police worked to secure the area, Medina managed to grab another knife and stabbed herself in the leg. Officers quickly intervened, pinning her down as she reportedly cried out, “I cannot live without him” and “let me die.” The first responders, according to Detective Sergeant D. Faust, were devastated by the scene. “I don’t think that anything could have prepared our first responders… it was very, very, very rough on them,” he said during a press conference. Police Chief J. Siemens echoed this sentiment, describing the crime as something that “shocks your conscience” and “rocks you to your core.”
Following her arrest, Medina was taken to the hospital, where she reportedly made several alarming statements. According to police, she told investigators she believed someone was following her and that people were on the roof trying to break in and that her son was being hurt when he went to school. She also said, “There’s no going back.” In a later phone call with family members, Medina reportedly referred to herself as “trash” in Spanish and said she was ashamed of what she had done.
Authorities confirmed that this was an “isolated incident”, but the motive appears tied to delusional beliefs or a mental health crisis. No previous criminal history for Medina was noted, and the full extent of her mental state remains under investigation. The case has left neighbors and the wider community reeling from the loss of a young boy described as bright and full of life. As Medina awaits further court proceedings, a family must now confront the unimaginable: a mother’s breakdown turned fatal and a child’s life cut short in the very place he should have been safest—his own home.
