UAMS College of Nursing now accepting applications for new nurse-midwifery program

Little Rock, Arkansas – The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Nursing is inviting aspiring nurse-midwives to apply for the first two cohorts of its brand-new Nurse-Midwifery Program, which is set to begin enrolling students for the 2026-27 academic year.

Applications are currently open and will be accepted through March 1. The program will begin with two small cohorts, selecting five students for fall 2026 and an additional five for spring 2027. This carefully planned rollout aims to offer personalized attention and high-quality training to each participant.

Aspiring nurse-midwives can complete their training and join the workforce after two and a half years in this master’s program. The Nurse-Midwifery Program will follow a hybrid model, with most coursework delivered online, allowing students flexibility while they complete their studies. However, students will meet in person each semester for critical hands-on skill sessions at either the main UAMS campus in Little Rock or the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus in Fayetteville.

Clinical Training Across Arkansas

As part of their training, students will gain real-world experience through clinical placements alongside certified nurse-midwives, advanced practice registered nurses, and physicians at various health facilities across the state. This experience will be essential in preparing them for the complexities of modern maternity and reproductive care.

To qualify for the program, applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and must be licensed registered nurses (RNs) in good standing, with no disciplinary actions or limitations on their licenses.

Interested individuals can learn more about the program and submit an application by visiting nursing.uams.edu/programs/mnsc/nurse-midwifery.

With the growing need for skilled nurse-midwives across Arkansas, UAMS is taking an important step in training professionals who can provide quality, compassionate care in communities statewide.
