Woman died after a man recently released on parole after serving only 10 out of a 40-year sentence attacked her with a large knife and cinder block following a domestic dispute; arrested

Texas – In a disturbing incident in Texas, a 38-year-old woman, identified as M. Brooker, was brutally murdered with a large knife and a cinder block by a 36-year-old man, identified as R. Ozment, who was recently released on parole after serving only 10 out of a 40-year sentence. Ozment was arrested and now faces first-degree murder charges in connection with Brooker’s death. According to authorities, this horrific event took place last weekend, on Saturday.

The sequence of events leading to Ozment’s arrest began after his own mother contacted the authorities. She reported that her son appeared “very sweaty” and she had seen a “human foot lying on the ground behind an RV” on her property. Alarmed by the horrific discovery, the mother confronted Ozment, asking, “What have you done?” Ozment allegedly replied that Brooker “tried to stab me.” His mother immediately ran into the house while her husband called 911.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Brooker critically injured behind the RV. First responders began treating the woman for extensive injuries, mainly to her head. Despite immediate medical attention and being airlifted to a hospital, Brooker succumbed to her injuries. According to Sheriff P. McNamara, the attack stemmed from an unspecified domestic argument, though the exact nature of the relationship between Ozment and Brooker was not clear at the time of the report.

Following the attack, Ozment fled the scene, triggering an extensive search by multiple law enforcement agencies, including ground and aerial units. After a tense 10-hour manhunt, Ozment was found hiding underwater in a stock tank in the woods near the crime scene. He was arrested without further incident.

During a press conference, McNamara described the attack as “one of the most horrific, horrible, brutal, senseless attacks” he has seen. He detailed Ozment’s criminal history, noting that the suspect had been released on parole several months earlier after serving 10 years of a 40-year sentence for multiple burglaries, including churches and homes in the area. “He is now back where he belongs, and our community is safer for it,” McNamara added. Ozment is currently being held at the county jail with a bond set at $1 million.

The investigation is still ongoing. Authorities are working to determine the exact details leading up to the attack, including the nature of the relationship between Ozment and Brooker. Additional charges may be filed as more information becomes available.

A GoFundMe page was set up to support Brooker’s child in the wake of her death. “In this incredibly difficult time, we are asking for your support to help cover the unexpected expenses and ensure her family can grieve without worrying about bills, food, gas, and support for her child.” The fundraiser page reads, “She was tragically taken from us too soon. A victim of a senseless act of violence, she was a cherished mother, daughter, and friend.”
