Woman who placed her boyfriend’s 4- and 5-year-old daughters in a tub filled with hot water and wouldn’t allow them to get out, resulting in serious injuries throughout their bodies, was sentenced

Ohio – In a harrowing case of child endangerment in Ohio, a 22-year-old woman, identified as M. Harrison, was sentenced last week for causing serious physical harm to her boyfriend’s two young daughters, aged 4 and 5. The distressing incident involved forcing the children to remain in a scalding hot bathtub, resulting in severe burn marks and inducing a seizure in one of the victims.

A judge has handed down a rigorous sentence to Harrison, who could face eight to eleven years in a state correctional facility. The sentencing occurred after her conviction on two counts of endangering children, which led to serious physical harm, announced by the county’s prosecuting attorney’s office. The incident came to light on the evening of June 6, 2024, when deputies from the sheriff’s office, along with emergency medical personnel, responded to a distressing call from a residence. They were alerted to a medical emergency involving a 5-year-old girl experiencing a seizure. Upon arrival, first responders were confronted with a horrifying scene: the young girl displayed severe injuries across a significant portion of her body. She was urgently transported to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities swiftly deduced that Harrison was responsible for the injuries inflicted on the child. Sheriff M. Champlin released a statement revealing the findings of a meticulous investigation into the incident, which pointed directly to Harrison’s intentional acts. She was arrested on June 9, 2024, and faced charges of felony child endangerment. “It is always particularly heinous when someone entrusted with the care of children betrays that trust in such a cruel way,” Sheriff Champlin commented, reflecting the community’s shock and outrage over the case.

Further investigation uncovered that Harrison, who was in a relationship with the father of the children and acting as their caregiver at the time, had placed both the 5-year-old and her 4-year-old sister in an extremely hot bath. Not only did she force them into the dangerous water, but she also physically restrained them from leaving, preventing any attempt to adjust the water to a safer temperature. This appalling action led to the older child suffering from “seizure activity” and second-degree burns, while her younger sister suffered both first and second-degree burns.

During her trial, Harrison’s heinous actions were laid bare, leading to her conviction. The court mandated that upon completing her prison sentence, she would remain under the supervision of the Adult Parole Authority for up to three years. The case has left an indelible mark on the community, serving as a grim reminder of the responsibilities of caretakers and the vulnerabilities of children. The local authorities have expressed a commitment to ensuring justice and ongoing protection for the surviving victim and her sister, both of whom have endured unimaginable trauma. This tragic event underscores the critical importance of vigilance and thorough investigation in cases of child endangerment, ensuring that those who harm the most vulnerable members of society face appropriate consequences.
