Maryland – In a harrowing incident that has shocked residents in Maryland, a 32-year-old mother, identified as T. Brown, is accused of shooting her 13-year-old daughter and then attempting to manipulate the situation to avoid justice. Brown faces serious charges, including attempted first-degree murder following the incident that left her daughter critically injured.
The incident unfolded on a seemingly ordinary afternoon after school on Monday, when police were called to Brown’s residence around 4:50 p.m. Responding officers discovered the young victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck, with additional injuries caused by bullet fragments in her shoulder and abdomen. According to police reports, the situation escalated from a verbal argument to a violent altercation that nearly cost a young girl her life. The girl was rushed to a local hospital, where she was listed in critical condition but has since been stabilizing in the intensive care unit.
Court documents detailed that after the shooting, the girl fell down the stairs and was unable to move. Brown reportedly concocted a story for the 911 responders, claiming a homeless man had broken into their home and shot her daughter. The dispatcher was informed that the “patient was shot in her neck by a homeless person,” as heard in a recorded call.
In the aftermath of the shooting, it was revealed that Brown allegedly tried to coerce her daughter into lying about the circumstances of the incident. According to authorities, Brown instructed her daughter to tell police that the injury was the result of a home invasion. Further compounding her legal troubles, Brown left a voicemail for the child’s father, stating that if their daughter did not testify or appear in court, the charges might be dropped. The voicemail included the line, “attempted first-degree murder — c’mon, that’s not me,” showcasing Brown’s attempt to downplay the severity of her actions.
Assistant State’s Attorney A. Sowls expressed concern during a court session about the influence Brown has over her daughter, emphasizing the vulnerability of the young girl due to her age and her relationship with her mother. Sowls highlighted the distressing fact that Brown, rather than showing concern for her daughter’s condition, focused on manipulating the legal outcomes of her actions. Brown did not inquire about her daughter’s condition after the shooting, despite the girl being in “screeching pain” and unable to walk. “At no time did she express any concern for how her child is doing,” Sowls said.
“The situation is incredibly tragic,” said State’s Attorney A. Braveboy. “It is always tragic when we have acts of violence within our community, but it is heart wrenching when the perpetrator is supposed to be your protector,” echoed Acting Police Chief Cedric Heyward, reflecting on the betrayal of a child’s trust by a parent.
Brown is currently being held without bail, with a court date set for October 25. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are handling the case with caution, given the emotional impact on the young girl and the complexities surrounding the involvement of her mother in the shooting.
The case has sparked widespread concern within the community, with many struggling to comprehend how a mother could harm her own child. As the investigation continues, the well-being and recovery of the young girl remain a priority for both law enforcement and those involved in the case.
