16-year-old girl died, 5 are injured after a woman they argued with earlier threatened to shoot them before she jumped into her car and ran them over in reverse; woman arrested

Minnesota – In a harrowing incident in Minnesota, a young woman’s decision to intentionally drive her vehicle into a crowd of people has resulted in the death of a 16-year-old girl, identified as D. Broome, and severe injuries to at least five others. The 22-year-old woman, identified as L. Margalli, faces serious charges, including second-degree murder and five counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. The charges were announced by the attorney’s office on Tuesday.

“This was a devastating crime,” said the county’s attorney, M. Moriarty, during a press briefing. “Ms. Margalli’s life-altering decision to drive her car into a group of people has left the Broome family with an enormous void.”

According to the criminal complaint, two groups of people were involved in a verbal altercation near around 1 a.m. on Saturday. Witnesses reported that Margalli and her friends were arguing with Broome and her friends. The tension escalated, and Margalli allegedly threatened to shoot the group before getting into her vehicle.

During the altercation, Margalli jumped into her vehicle and began reversing at high speed. Court documents state that she was driving so quickly that she knocked her own passenger to the ground with the still-open passenger door. Without braking, Margalli drove directly into the crowd of people. Many of the victims had their backs turned or were already on the ground when they were struck.

Six people were hit by the vehicle. Broome suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The other five victims sustained injuries ranging from bumps to broken legs and a head injury. First responders arrived promptly at the scene, providing medical assistance and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.

Prosecutors highlighted the egregious nature of Margalli’s actions. “Her conduct was not only reckless but intentional,” they stated. The fact that she drove into a crowd without any attempt to slow down demonstrates a clear disregard for human life.

The community has been left in shock over the tragic loss of a young life. Broome, just 16 years old, was remembered by friends and family as a vibrant and caring individual. “She had her whole life ahead of her,” a family member said. “This senseless act has taken her away from us far too soon.”

Attorney Moriarty emphasized the impact of the incident. “Ms. Margalli’s actions have caused irreparable harm to multiple families,” she said. “We are committed to seeking justice for Broome and all the victims affected by this tragedy.”

Police were able to locate Margalli’s vehicle a short time later, thanks in part to a witness who followed her after the incident. Margalli was arrested and taken into custody. She remained jailed on a $1.5 million bond as of Tuesday.

Margalli’s next court appearance has not been publicly announced. If convicted of second-degree murder, she faces a significant prison sentence. The additional assault charges could further increase her potential time behind bars.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of violence and reckless behavior. The community mourns the loss of Broome and hopes for the recovery of those injured. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the incident to ensure that justice is served.
